Nature walks always release endorphins, and my mind is quickly put at ease. Whether it’s walking about my neighborhood, or taking my family to a nearby beach, trail, or park, finding the beauty in nature by enjoying the world using our five senses is priceless. One form of relaxation I work hard to do on a weekly basis is walking while enjoying the sounds and beauty of nature around me. A bonus feature: I get to read or listen to a good book while enjoying the soft sway of my hammock in the wind. The hammock in our backyard is strategically placed under the trees so I can see the sky while enjoying a soft breeze. My favorite part of the week is hammock time. Whichever you prefer, find a book and enjoy! If you prefer to read a digital book, you can download great audiobooks from Audible or a newer app I used called, Galatea, gives readers the option to read or listen to the book. I always check out my local library or used bookstores in the area for great suggestions. Writing is also a highly cathartic activity that also stimulates your imagination. According to recent research, even a few minutes of reading can be enough to reduce the stress levels by more than two thirds. Reading is one of the best ways to relax. Normally it’s a juicy fiction story or a book about self-care, but no matter the text, it always helps me remember that everything else can wait because it’s time to read, relax, and unwind. One of my favorite things to do when I need a moment to relax is read. You can find 5-minute meditation practices from YouTube, or apps like Calm or Headspace. You can do this for 5 minutes or 15 minutes, but no matter how much time you spend on this form of relaxation, you will see amazing benefits and improvements in your mood. With our hectic schedules, meditation can help everyone become more aware of their feelings, emotions, and actions. Practicing mindfulness is something everyone should dedicate some time to on a weekly basis. I use these suggestions to remind myself about the importance of relaxation and self-care.
